WLBU2 is an engineered cationic antimicrobial peptide (eCAP) designed to overcome the environmental susceptibility issues of natural antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). This peptide exhibits rapid bactericidal effects with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ≤ 10 μM against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterobacter cloacae, and Escherichia coli. WLBU2 effectively inhibits the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms and remains active in mucus-rich, low-pH, and high-salt environments without adverse effects on human respiratory epithelial cells. WLBU2 can be used to study cystic fibrosis (CF) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection.
