Violet Red Bile Agar Plate

It is used for detection of E. coli with solide plate. Peptone and yeast extract provide carbon and nitrogen source, vitamins, growth factors, co-enzymes and other nutrients; Sodium chloride maitains osmotic pressure; Lactose is fermentable carbohydrate and serves as energy source; Crystal violet kills Gram-positive bacteria such as staphylococci and diphtheria bacilli, as well as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, and epidermophyton fungi while exhibits no effect on other gram-negative and anti-acid bacteria; Neutral red serves as a indicator; Agar is a gelling agent.
