Choline is an essential nutrient in the body. It is a precursor for the synthesis of acetylcholine， acetylcholine is an important neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Choline is also an important part of the cell membrane and plays a key role in many biological processes. Long-term intake of a choline-deficient diet can lead to liver and kidney dysfunction， memory loss and growth disorders. Lack of choline during pregnancy may lead to abnormal fetal development. Most of the choline in food and biological samples exists in the form of phospholipids. The kit releases choline from the binding form by acid hydrolysis and generates fluorescent products under enzymatic reaction. The amount of fluorescent substances is proportional to the choline content of the sample.
