Product introduction In the liver, fatty acids undergo β-oxidation to produce acetyl-coa, and then synthesize ketone bodies. Ketone bodies are special intermediates generated by the normal catabolism of fatty acids in the liver. However, ketone bodies cannot be used by the liver and must be transported to tissues outside the liver, especially muscle and kidney, where they are converted to acetyl-coa for oxidative use. The kit uses potassium octanoate as the substrate, and the ketone bodies produced by the kit react with sodium ferricyanide nitrite in the alkaline environment with ammonium ions to form purple compounds.
