Tat-CIRP is a peptide inhibitor used to inhibit the protein-protein interaction between myeloid differentiation 2 protein (MD-2, also known as lymphocyte antigen 96 [LY96]) and cold-induced RNA-binding protein (CIRP). It interferes with the interaction between MD-2 and CIRP by binding to MD-2, an effect confirmed in co-immunoprecipitation assays. In vivo, Tat-CIRP (10 and 20 mg/kg) reduced infarct volume in mice induced by midcerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Similarly, in a rhesus monkey model of thrombosis-induced cerebral infarction, Tat-CIRP reduced infarct volume and shortened the time required for the stroke-affected arm to grasp and put down food.
