SMAP 29 is an antimicrobial peptide and also the C-terminal cleavage product of a sheep defensin precursor peptide. It exhibits bactericidal activity against *P. aeruginosa* strain PAO1 under both low and high salt conditions, as demonstrated by energy-dependent luminescence assays (EC50s of 0.05 and 0.06 μM, respectively). It also induces hemolysis of sheep erythrocytes in a concentration-dependent manner.
