Serpinin, as an agonist of the protease inhibitor Nexin-1 (PN-1), enhances PN-1 expression through the cAMP-PKA-Sp1 signaling pathway and promotes granule formation in endocrine cells. Furthermore, serpinin also acts as a selective agonist of β-adrenergic receptors, activating the AC-cAMP-PKA pathway through interaction with β1-adrenergic receptors, thereby regulating myocardial contraction and relaxation. Its derivative, pGlu-serpinin, possesses neuroprotective functions by upregulating Bcl2 mRNA transcription and is frequently used to study the regulation of secretory function.
