In addition，the abnormal activity of monoamine oxidase leads to disorder of monoamine neurotransmitter in the cell，which leads to a variety of diseases. MAO catalyzes the deamination of monoamine substrates，and the produced NH4+ is determined by indophenol blue colorimetry，The product has a characteristic absorption peak at 630 nm，and the activity of MAO enzyme can be calculated by measuring the absorbance at 630 nm.
