This gene encodes a member of the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family that includes decorin， biglycan， fibromodulin， keratocan， epiphycan， and osteoglycin. In these bifunctional molecules， the protein moiety binds collagen fibrils and the highly charged hydrophilic glycosaminoglycans regulate interfibrillar spacings.
