Long-chain-acyl CoA dehydrogenase (LCAD) is a type of important mitochondrial enzyme that plays a role as the initiating and key rate-limiting step in the fatty acid β-oxidation metabolic pathway. They are responsible for catalyzing the first oxidation reaction in the fatty acid catabolism process， initiating and catalyzing the decomposition of very long-chain fatty acids， and are the primary step for organisms to obtain energy from fats.
