Hydroxyl Radical Scavenging Ability Assay Kit (Salicylic Acid Method)

The hydroxyl radical is a highly toxic and harmful free radical produced by the human body during metabolism. It can oxidize substances such as carbohydrates ， amino acids ， proteins ， and nucleic acids in tissues ， leading to oxidative damage and destruction ， and resulting in cell necrosis or mutation. The hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity is one of the key indicators of a sample’s antioxidant activity and is widely applied in studies on plant stress tolerance ， antioxidant health products ， and pharmaceuticals. In the Fenton reaction ， Fe²⁺ and H₂O₂ generate hydroxyl radicals while oxidizing Fe²⁺ to Fe³⁺. Salicylic acid chelates with Fe³⁺ to form [Fe(C₆H₄O₂)(H₂O)₄]⁺ (purple complex) ， which exhibits an absorption peak at 520 nm. By measuring the absorbance at 520 nm ， the hydroxyl radical scavenging ability of the sample can be evaluated.
