EMP17 is a mimetic peptide of erythropoietin (EPO). Erythropoietin (EPO) is a hormone involved in red blood cell generation that activates its receptor by binding to the extracellular domain of the receptor and may dimerize two receptor monomers to initiate signal transduction. EMP contains two potential active amines, one located at the amino end of the peptide and the other on the side chain of a single lysine in the peptide sequence.
