Cecropins are the first discovered animal antimicrobial peptides with broad-spectrum antibacterial effects. This type of polypeptide generally consists of 35–39 amino acids and usually contains no cysteine residues in its sequence. The N-terminus is rich in basic amino acids, endowing it with strong alkalinity, and it adopts an amphipathic helical structure. The C-terminus contains abundant hydrophobic amino acids and forms a hydrophobic helix.
