cCF10 is a peptide ex pheromone that induces the transfer of the conjugating plasmid pCF10 from a plasmid-containing donor bacterium to a plasmid-free recipient bacterium. It induces the bacterial Opp system and enters the bacterial interior, thereby inhibiting the accumulation of (p)ppGpp. By maintaining the metabolically active state of the bacteria, cCF10 reduces the formation of persistent bacteria.
