It is used as a plant growth regulator. 6-(γ, γ-dimethylallylamino) purine (2-iP) is a bacteria-derived riboside cytokinin that is used for the growth of plant tissues such as tobacco and soybean cruze. 2-iP is a precursor of zeatin cytokinin, which has been used in Schenk and Hildebrandt media to support in vitro propagation of shoot tips of broom plants grown from test-tube seedlings.
